Background

PCORI® has supported many comparative clinical effectiveness studies that have produced meaningful results and actionable information to help healthcare systems, providers, and patients make informed decisions to improve patient health and other prioritized outcomes. There is a significant time lag between the generation of scientific evidence and the adoption of evidence into real-world healthcare practice and settings.   

Goals

UPMC’s mission is to serve our community by providing outstanding patient care and to enhance and shape our health system through clinical and technology innovation, research, and education. PCORI® HSII presents a unique opportunity for UPMC to expand its capacity as a learning health system and to strengthen efforts towards achieving health equity. Through HSII, UPMC has opportunity to pursue funding to implement and evaluate new practices with the goal of widespread improvements in individual and population health outcomes as well as advancements in health equity within and across the communities UPMC serves.
